Ephesians 4: Worthy of the Calling of Christ

Ephesians 4: Worthy of the Calling of Christ. Paul clarifies the central doctrine of faith and how believers are to live those doctrines. The Church of Ephesus found itself at the center of a major commerce route in the Roman Empire, leading to great wealth. Ephesus was also a religious center from all over the Empire, but more specifically, for worshiping the goddess Diana. In the midst of this, the Church was established. In these ways, Ephesus finds familiarity with America, a wealthy nation that has become a hub for many religions. Just as Paul had to clarify proper doctrine and how believers must live it out, his words echo to us today.

We must ask ourselves, are we worthy of the calling of Christ? What does it look like to be worthy of such a high calling? I would wager that many of us, though we want to think we are worthy of such a calling, will find in Paul's words that we are indeed lacking in many areas. When we find these areas of lack, do we have the courage to accept and improve? Can we commit to allowing the Holy Spirit to transform us, even if it makes us uncomfortable?

This week, we will be looking specifically at Ephesians 4. We will highlight the previous chapters, where central Christian doctrine is established, and get into the 4th chapter, looking at what traits are reflected in a believer walking worthy of the calling of Christ. As always, we will celebrate communion and pray. Invite someone to join us.
